On Saturday, we had class due to a reworking of the schedule to give us a full week off because of two holidays (National Day and Mid-Autumn Day). I thought it would be fun for those of you back home to see a couple of my classes. The first class I’ll post pictures of is class 19. I asked for the kids to write their names down on a piece of paper for me. I had them put both their chosen English name and their given Chinese name, but since the Chinese names are in characters, I won’t be posting those (I’m sure I could figure it out eventually, but it’d take me ages). So without further ado, I give you Class 19:
Nancy
Jerry
Jasper
Melody
Derek
Bob
Tony
Alane
Kitty :) (the smiley face was hers, not mine)
Victor
Tina
Jack
Alice
Jack
Micheal (I used his spelling, though with Michael, I could understand misspelling it even if it is your chose name)
Ella
Anny
Lisa
Lily
Miranda
Tina (this is Tina #2)
Lawrence
Vera <3 (she added a heart after her name)
Lisa (Lisa #2)
Jane
Andy
John (I’m thinking this one grows up to be a judge like the coolest guy I know)
Sophie (It’s too bad I didn’t bring my Super Sophie shirt, though an XL would be way to big for any of these kids)
Mike
Jerry (Jerry #2)
Panda (this is a human, not a panda bear who has learned to write, sadly)
Joana <3 (another one who added a heart)
Steven
Nicke
Apple-Lu (she drew two apples and colored one of them green)
Hedy
Lucy
Emily
Alex
Bob
Andy (Andy #2)
Ivanca
Alice (Alice #2)
Mark

Gina (Gina #2)
Bethy
Anny

Tom (Tom #2)
Woodson
Jimmy
Peter
Tim
Gary (I’m thinking this one becomes a dentist, then subsequently an endodontist, and eventually a really cool uncle who dresses like a bum sometimes...)
Last night, I made up the rest of some frozen pot-stickers. They were really tasty. I think they were beef, corn, and carrot. Of course, as we have seen, I don’t have to know what’s in something to eat it. So far it’s ended up well for me. Again, that faint sound you hear is me frantically knocking on all the wood I have in immediate reach.
I felt so smart going to the same girl, figuring she’d know that I don’t speak Chinese and we’d have this tacit (most definitely tacit) understanding. Then I go and pull this stunt. I’m trying to think of some way to make light of the situation. My best idea is to go back and buy some more oranges and make sure they’ve got a tag, then point it out to her that I’ve got one this time. Though knowing me, I’d be missing a tag on something else. Maybe I should slip her some oranges as an apology? I have no idea. The logical thing would be to joke with her about it, but that would require at least a rudimentary grasp of the language, a grasp I most certainly don’t have.
That’s all for now. I have a few more ideas in mind and the rest of this week to update, so please stop by when you have the time. Zai jian!
